Wusong Tunnel, built in Tongling, Anhui Province, is a bi-directional four-lane separated tunnel, in which there are bicycle lanes and sidewalks. With the left line of 837m, the right line of 820m and the biggest excavation width of nearly 17m, the tunnel, though it runs through karst, goaf, coal seam, roadway, ground fissure and other unfavorable geology or structure sections, is a large-span municipal tunnel built under a great complicated construction condition.
The tunnel employed a variety of new ideas and new techniques, including “zero excavation”, building rockery tunnel portals, seamless connection to bicycle lanes and sidewalks inside and outside, relief sculptures and wave-type adornments, and the dynamic integration of air-raid shelters and the tunnel.
