1. Project Overview
It was one of 70 cross-river channels on the Yangtze River established by the National Development and Reform Commission in July 2004. The left branch is a three-tower and two-span (2x1080m) suspension bridge, with main span beyond one thousand meters, ranking first among the bridges of its type in the world. The length of the main cable being over 3,000 meters and with tower-to-beam consolidation system being first applied, it has the world’s largest steel-concrete coincided tower. The right branch is a 2×260m three-tower (in an elliptical arch shape), cable-stayed bridge, the first of its type in China.
2. Technical Features and Innovative Points
1) Innovation in a three-tower suspension bridge adapting to river regime.
2) Innovation in the non-drifting structural system (tower-beam consolidation system) of a suspension bridge.
3) Innovation in steel-concrete superimposed main tower for a suspension bridge.
4) Innovation in design and key construction techniques for a cable-stayed bridge with a curve concrete tower.
5) Innovation in a new root foundation for bridge foundation.
3. Innovative Achievements
1) Patent for innovation in “a suspension bridge of continuous spans with steel-concrete superimposition and tower-beam consolidation at a thousand meter scale”
2) “Researches on ultimate load carrying capacity in the key states in the construction and operation of a three-tower suspension bridge” and “Researches on the long-term deflection control of long-span bridges”
3) Patents for “Root Foundation and Construction Method”, “Constructional Devices for Root Type, Cast-in-place Bored Pile” and “Complete Devices for Root Foundation and Anchor Push Construction”.
